Peer Management: Peer Limit Increased

TES Administrators can add up to 35 colleges and universities as peers.

How It Works

Peer Sharing is a feature that allows TES® Administrators to designate other TES-subscribing institutions as peers for the purpose of seeing how these colleges and universities are evaluating courses and other learning experiences for transfer and award of credit. Institutions can use this information as a reference point when evaluating credit or advocating for practice and/or policy changes. System colleges can also use this feature to collaborate with one another on statewide transfer and articulation.

The limit on the number of peer institutions has been increased. TES Administrators can now select up to 35 peer institutions instead of 6.

For more information, see Peer Sharing: Overview and Management and Peer Sharing: View Peer Equivalencies.

TES Public View CAPTCHA Modified

Users will be required to go through a CAPTCHA process to access an institution’s TES® Public View.

How It Works

A CAPTCHA is a process in which a user performs an action to confirm that the individual is a person and not a bot. Due to a series of bot and data-scraping attacks, CollegeSource will require a CAPTCHA before granting access to an institution’s Public View. Previously, a CAPTCHA was required only if a user exceeded a specified usage rate.

For further information, see Using the Public View.

Updates to the Words in Common Comparison Logic within the EQ Search

The comparison logic used in the Words in Common feature has been updated. If the same word appears in both the sending and receiving institutions' course descriptions, it will be highlighted and bolded when only one word is encased in a parenthesis.

How It Works

The EQ Search is a tool within the Course Finder whereby individuals with the ACCESS EQ user right can compare the keywords from a sending institution's course title to the receiving institution's titles and descriptions. Courses containing these terms will appear within the search results. From here, users can review the course information in more detail. If it is determined that the courses are equivalent, users can create an equivalency from the COURSE DETAIL screen. If additional review is needed, the course can be sent to the Evaluation Tracker workflow.

Within the COURSE DETAIL, when comparing one send course and one receive course, users can select the checkbox to the left of WORDS IN COMMON to bold and highlight the words that appear in both descriptions. This visual indicator can help users scan the course descriptions more quickly to look for shared content. Improvements were made to the comparison logic for this functionality, so words will be recognized as shared despite differences in the use of parentheses.

For more information, see Find Potential Equivalent Courses By Title Keywords: EQ Search.

Changes to the Equivalency Manager Export

Private Notes have been added to the Equivalency Manager export, and the Public Note field label name has been corrected.

How It Works

The Equivalency Manager allows users to export equivalencies from an individual institution. The export includes the following fields for each equivalency:

  • Transfer Institution
  • Transfer Course
  • Equivalent Course
  • Public Note
  • Private Note
  • Date Begin
  • Date End

The Public Note field was incorrectly labelled and has been updated with this change.

Course Change Explorer: Accessibility Improvements

The detail comparison page within the Course Change Explorer now aligns with Web Content 2.2 (WCAG) Accessibility Guidelines.

How It Works

The Course Change Explorer provides users with a report from which to view the changes in an institution's courses between two catalogs. After selecting two data sets to compare, users are presented with lists noting the courses that changed, were dropped, or were added.

The Changed list reports all courses that have undergone a change in title, description, units, prerequisites, corequisites, lecture hours, lab hours, recommendations, terms offered, or grade basis. After selecting a course, the user can view a side-by-side comparison of the course details. In a third column, text added to Dataset 1 appears highlighted in blue, providing users with a visual cue as to what has changed. The text dropped from Data Set 1 is highlighted in pink.

CollegeSource has updated the COMPARE DETAIL page to align with Web Content 2.2 (WCAG) Accessibility Guidelines, which stipulate that color should not solely be used to convey differences in information to users. Now:

  • Changes are announced to screenreader users, making it easier to understand the differences in data sets without relying on visual cues.
  • Dropped text will include a horizontal line ("strikethrough") through it in addition to being highlighted pink.
  • Added text will be bolded and highlighted in blue.

For further information, see Course Change Explorer. If users do not see changes right away to the Course Change Explorer, CollegeSource recommends clearing the browser cache.
