Course Finder (Alternate Credit)
This article provides instructions for locating courses in TES® from organizations that offer learning experiences that can result in the award of academic credit.

Alternate Credit Organizations in TES
In addition to college and university catalogs, TES provides data sets for organizations with learning experiences that may result in the award of alternate credit. Or, in the case of the American Council on Education (ACE), provide recommendations for the award of credit for such experiences. These learning experiences may include courses, standardized exams, or workforce training and certifications. Examples of these organizations include:
- Cambridge Assessment International Education
- The CollegeBoard (AP/CLEP)
- DSST Program Exams
- International Baccalaureate (IB)
- Sophia Learning
- Straighterline
- U.S. Department of Labor
Locate an Organization
To locate an alternate credit organization in TES:
- Go to the Search menu.
- Select Course Finder.
- Select the Alternate Credit radio button.
- A list of all the organizations identified in TES as alternate credit organizations will appear.
- Users may additionally select All to search amongst all the institutions in TES.
Contained within the grid will be the following information:
Field Name | Description |
---|---|
INSTITUTION | The organization from which the course is offered. |
CITY | The city in which the organization resides. |
STATE | The state in which the organization resides. |
DATASET | A checkmark in this field indicates that the organization has at least one dataset in TES. |
CATALOG | A checkmark in this field indicates that the organization has at least one catalog in TES. |
SHARED | Indicates whether the organization shares a catalog with another institution in TES.

View Information
- Choose the Select an institution (arrow) to the left of the INSTITUTION name to view the information available in TES.
- Use the icons to the right to access organizational information.
Transcript keys are not available for alternate credit organizations.
View the Institution Profile
The administration building icon provides access to the Institution Profile information, which includes contact information and a description of the organization. uAchieve® institutions should use the IPEDS ID Number as the SourceID to display equivalencies in Transferology®.
TES Administrators can create User Added Admin Notes to document additional information about the organization in TES. For further information, see Create and Manage Institution Profile Notes under Related Articles.

The globe provides a link to the organization's official website.
Data Set
Use the DATA SET dropdown to access the collections of course details by catalog year.
- Use the SEARCH ALL DATA SETS feature to search all data sets by Course Code or Course Title.
If viewing the American Council on Education's data sets, it is important to note that titles exist for:
- ACE MILITARY COURSES AND OCCUPATIONS.
- NATIONAL GUIDE TO COLLECT CREDIT FOR WORKFORCE TRAINING EXAMS AND COURSES.
From here, users with the:
- CREATE EVAL user right can create an evaluation task.
- CREATE EQ user right can create an equivalency.
